# Use Onsomble with Claude

> Connect Onsomble to Claude Desktop, Claude.ai, and Claude Code by signing in, or with an API key for scripts.

Connect Onsomble to Claude and you can run your AI discoverability work by talking to it: set up a Site, add the prompts you track, run a Scan, or ask how you are showing up in AI answers. Claude does the work in your account and reports back.

The connection is one address:

```text theme={null}
https://mcp.onsomble.ai/mcp
```

You sign in to Onsomble the first time you connect, so no keys change hands. For scripts and automated setups, use an [API key](#api-keys-for-scripts-and-ci) instead.

## Claude Desktop and Claude.ai

The steps are the same in the desktop app and on Claude.ai.

In a Team or Enterprise workspace, an **Owner** or **Primary Owner** must first add Onsomble under **Organization settings → Connectors**. Enterprise users with the **Manage access to Libraries** permission can also add it. Members then connect to Onsomble individually.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open connector settings">
    Go to **Customize → Connectors** and choose **Add custom connector**.
    In a workspace, select the Onsomble connector your organisation has already
    added and choose **Connect** instead.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Paste the connection">
    When adding a new connector, paste the address above, name it **Onsomble**,
    and add it. Skip this step if you selected an existing workspace connector.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in and approve">
    Choose **sign in now**, sign in to Onsomble in the browser that opens, and
    approve access. Claude marks the connector as connected.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Claude Code

Add the server with one command:

```bash theme={null}
claude mcp add --transport http onsomble https://mcp.onsomble.ai/mcp
```

<Steps>
  <Step title="Authenticate">
    Type `/mcp`, select **Onsomble**, and choose **Authenticate**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Approve">
    Sign in to Onsomble in the browser that opens and approve access.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Anthropic's own guide: [Connect to remote MCP servers in Claude Code](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/mcp-quickstart).

## Use it

Name Onsomble in your first message and name the Site you mean. A few to start with are on the [overview](/developers/connect/overview). To make Claude read the results like an analyst, install the [Onsomble skills](/developers/connect/skill) alongside the connection.

## API keys for scripts and CI

For an automated setup, a shared repository, or the Claude API, authenticate with an Onsomble API key instead of signing in. Create one in **Settings → Account → API Keys**: see the [API overview](/developers/quickstart). Keys start with `ons_` and are shown once at creation.

### Claude Code, shared across a repository

Commit a `.mcp.json` at the project root and keep the key in an environment variable, so nothing secret lands in the file:

```json theme={null}
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "onsomble": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.onsomble.ai/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer ${ONSOMBLE_API_KEY}"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

Each developer sets `ONSOMBLE_API_KEY` in their shell.

### The Claude API

Attach the server to a Messages API call with the MCP connector. Anthropic's platform makes the tool calls; you never proxy the traffic.

```python theme={null}
import anthropic
client = anthropic.Anthropic()
response = client.beta.messages.create(
    model="claude-sonnet-5",
    max_tokens=2048,
    mcp_servers=[
        {
            "type": "url",
            "url": "https://mcp.onsomble.ai/mcp",
            "name": "onsomble",
            "authorization_token": "ons_your_api_key",
        }
    ],
    messages=[
        {
            "role": "user",
            "content": "How visible is acme.example in AI assistants this month?",
        }
    ],
    betas=["mcp-client-2025-04-04"],
)
print(response.content)
```

Onsomble MCP can read results and, with the required permissions, change Clients, Sites, scan configuration and schedules. Starting a Scan uses scan allowance. In an automated integration, restrict tools to the reads you need or require user confirmation before executing write actions. The tools available to a connection depend on its permissions.
