Before you start
You’ll need a Site with ingestion complete. Onsomble uses the ingested website content to suggest competitors and prompts, so running scans before ingestion finishes means working without the benefit of those suggestions. See Ingesting your website if ingestion is still running.The four inputs
Competitors
Competitors are the yardstick every scan measures against. Citation benchmarks, share of voice, and sentiment are all comparative — they’re only meaningful alongside the businesses you’re trying to beat.Onsomble suggests an initial competitor list based on what it learned from ingesting the website. Treat this as a starting point:
- Remove anyone who isn’t a real competitor. A business in the same broad category but different market isn’t a useful comparison.
- Add anyone obvious that’s missing. Competitors who don’t rank well in Google but still compete for customer attention often fly under Onsomble’s radar and need to be added manually.
- Keep the list tight. Five to eight direct competitors produce clearer comparisons than twenty loosely-related ones.
Prompts
A prompt is a realistic question a potential customer might ask an AI assistant — the kind of question that should surface the business if the business is well-represented.Onsomble suggests a starter set based on the business’s category and content. You can accept these, edit them, and add your own.Good prompts share three qualities:
- Realistic phrasing. Write the way a customer would type or speak. “What’s the best insurance broker in Christchurch” works better than “optimal insurance intermediary Christchurch metropolitan region.”
- Customer intent. Focus on the moment a customer is deciding — comparisons, recommendations, “best X for Y” questions — not pure information queries.
- Variety. Include a mix of brand-agnostic (“best plumber in…”), category-specific (“plumbers who handle commercial work”), and problem-specific (“my hot water cylinder is leaking — who do I call”) prompts. You want to see the business across the spectrum.
Models
Choose which AI assistants to scan. Onsomble currently supports:
- ChatGPT (OpenAI)
- Claude (Anthropic)
- Gemini (Google)
- Perplexity
Model behaviour changes as providers update their systems. A scan that returns one picture today may look different in a few months even without any action on the business’s side. This is exactly why recurring scans matter.
Scheduling recurring scans
Recurring scans are how you track whether the changes you’re making are moving the numbers. From the Site’s scan settings, set a schedule. Once configured, Onsomble runs the scan automatically at the chosen cadence and notifies you when it’s complete. You can continue running ad-hoc scans alongside the schedule — they won’t interrupt it.Running the first scan
With all four inputs configured, run the scan. The first scan usually takes five to ten minutes — Onsomble queries each selected model with each prompt and captures the full response. You’ll be notified when it’s complete.What’s next
